As you know, this disease can cause excruciating pain.

However, there is more than that, when gout left untreated, it can lead to serious complications. Those hardened crystals increasing and forming subcutaneous deposits surrounded by inflammatory cells. As the disease progresses, those builds up attack the joints and cause destruction of cartilage and bone.

At this stage, you tend to feel pain in joints and kidneys at each movement; with a complete treatment, the disease will eventually lead to kidney failure. Once the kidney is affected, the pain becomes severe.

From time to time, you can feel renal colic (a very excruciating abdominal pain). To prevent those serious problems, it is crucial to treat your gout in early stage. In this article, you will find diet and alternative therapies that can help you eradicate the gout without drugs:

Coffee – In your struggle with gout, you should not ignore the importance of regular use of coffee in your diet. Some foods such as strawberries, cherries, red peppers, kale, cabbage, pineapple, mandarins and tomatoes are excellent foods against symptoms of gout. In addition, tofu and complex carbohydrates have a beneficial effect against gout. Along with an effective natural remedy, regular consumption of these foods can eradicate the disease without medication.

As you increase in your diet anti gout foods, you also need to eliminate those that rigger its symptoms. The following foods are highly discouraged:

Alcoholic beverages; Crustaceans (Crustacea) and certain sea foods, lobster, herring, trout and all fatty fishes; Conserved fish (sardines, mackerel, fish soup, anchovies, tuna, herring) Canned meats, fatty meats, red meats, etc. Mushrooms, brown bread, yeast, fermented milk and cheeses

Recommended foods:

Fresh eggs in moderation; Low fat milk and butter; Fruits including dried fruits Leafy green vegetables Cereals and white bread (moderately) Low fat ice cream; honey and jams; Unfermented cheese Rice and pasta Tofu and soy products

Along with this diet, it is strongly recommended that you drink at lot of fluids (water and fresh natural juice) daily to facilitate the elimination of the uric acid. Here, you’ll discover why you need to avoid certain foods as part of your gout eliminating diet, and, which food groups to actually avoid.

First, before we look at the details of a diet to eliminate gout, in order to understand why diet is so important if you suffer from gout, it helps to get to know what actually causes your gout symptoms…

Cause of Gout

You probably know that urate crystals in your joints and surrounding tissue cause the symptoms of a gout attack. And you may know that these are formed from high uric acid levels in your bloodstream. But did you know that uric acid is a byproduct of the breakdown of “purines” in your body’s cells. When these breakdown completely as part of normal cell processes, uric acid is produced.

This is normal, and you kidneys process the uric acid and expel excess out of your body through urine mainly. This leaves sufficient uric acid in your blood to act as a beneficial antioxidant and to help protect the linings of your blood vessels. So far so good!

But, where there is too much uric acid being produced from the breakdown of cells, or, your kidneys aren’t working efficiently enough, then higher-than-normal levels of uric acid can remain in the blood. This then leads to urate crystals and, of course, gout.

Mainstream Treatment to Eliminate Gout

Now, once having been diagnosed with gout by their doctor, most people are put on drug-based medications. There are drugs to reduce inflammation and pain, and, drugs to help lower uric acid. And there is no doubt that they do these things effectively.

However, apart from the nasty side effects, they cannot address the underlying cause of gout. And the drugs that help lower uric acid levels have to be taken continually for a considerable time, perhaps years or even a lifetime. This is because although they are capable of reducing acid levels, they aren’t capable of dealing with the underlying issues.

Natural Treatment to Eliminate Gout

Which is why so many more gout sufferers these days are moving towards natural remedies to eliminate gout. Some of these remedies can reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Others can help to lower the uric acid levels. And, in conjunction with other disciplines such as diet and lifestyle adjustments, can help to maintain these healthier levels.

And it’s very important to maintain healthier uric acid levels to eliminate gout and prevent further gout attacks. Frequently occurring attacks may lead to permanent damage to your joints, and, kidney problems. Plus, having had one gout attack, you’re highly placed to have recurring attacks, which you need to avoid.

Diet to Eliminate Gout

A critical element in eliminating gout and preventing its return is your diet. Remember I spoke about purines above? Well, these also exist in our food at varying levels.

So it makes sense to reduce the amount of purines that you consume through your diet. Because you want to lower your uric acid levels, and, maintain them there. You need to do this in order to prevent further gout attacks with their potential to cause permanent damage.

You do this by avoiding high-purine foods. Generally speaking, foods that are high in purines are also high in protein. Here is an overview of the type of foods to avoid in your diet to eliminate gout:-

Beef, veal, venison, offal, sweetbreads, gravy, anchovies, sardines, shellfish, chicken, turkey, goose, duck, herring, mackerel, pork, bacon, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms, asparagus, lentils, certain beans and peas, and more.

But, of course, you need levels of protein, and, by eliminating or drastically cutting-down on those foods above, you can deplete those and other nutrients, mineral and vitamins. So you have to ensure that your gout diet is properly balanced, by substituting other appropriate foods, and, perhaps even taking natural supplements.

You’re in luck though. There’s a special gout report available online that has all the info. you need. It is what thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours plus prevent your gout returning in the future, then just click here and discover how you can quickly do both without expensive drugs and their horrible side effects.

The author constantly researches health issues then writes reports on his findings so that you are perhaps more aware of the facts, and then, better able to make an informed decision on your choice of treatment and cure. Here, you’ll discover why you need a gout diet, and, which foods to avoid for gout.

WHAT CAUSES GOUT?

Your gout is caused by the presence of uric acid crystals in your joints. This can be any joint, but the big toe is by far the most common one.

Your body’s own inflammatory reaction to their presence is what actually causes your gout symptoms, i.e. swelling, redness, hot to touch, inflammation, stiffness and excruciating pain.

These crystals form out of elevated uric acid in your bloodstream. And uric acid is actually a byproduct of the breakdown of necessary chemical compounds called ‘purines’ that are present in our bodies’ cells and food cells.

Your body needs correct concentrations of uric acid, and your kidneys help to achieve this by processing and excreting excess from your body.

But when there is too much uric acid being produced, or, your kidneys aren’t excreting uric acid fast enough, excess builds up in your bloodstream causing elevated uric acid levels. This leads to uric acid crystals and so to gout.

WHY DO I NEED A GOUT DIET?

As you’ve now seen above, purines are at the heart of uric acid production, and, your objective as a gout victim is to reduce uric acid levels in your blood.

And as you are also now aware, purines exist in your foods. But they don’t exist in equal concentrations. Some foods are relatively low in purines, whilst others are high, or, very high in purines.

Now, given that your objective is to reduce uric acid in your blood to healthier levels, and your food provides purines that produce the acid, then it doesn’t make any sense at all to keep adding unnecessary purines through your diet, does it?

No it doesn’t. So you need to avoid foods that cause gout, or rather, avoid foods that are high or very high in purines. I hope you can now see why you need a gout diet.

WHICH FOODS DO I NEED TO AVOID FOR GOUT?

The shocking fact is that there are very many foods that are popular, especially in Western diets, and that can seriously aggravate your gout, and, slow down your recovery.

There are too many to go into detail here, but to give you a flavor — excuse the pun! — of what is involved in gout causing diets, here are some ‘general food types’ you must avoid as a gout sufferer…

Fatty red meats, soups / gravies, poultry, offal, fish, shellfish, legumes and alcohol.

This is indeed shocking. But not all foods within each category have the same purine concentration. There are certainly some foods within each category that must be avoided, but there are also some which have only moderately high purine levels, and, some with relatively low levels.

WILL AVOIDING THESE FOODS BE ENOUGH?

Gout diets go a very long way to helping fight gout, but they are only a part of the gout prevention puzzle. And gout prevention is extremely important, not just because of the agonizing pain, but because of the serious consequences of recurring gout.

Recurring gout over time can cause you to have permanently damaged joints, kidney stones and other kidney troubles. And, once having suffered one gout attack, you’re extremely likely to have more, if you don’t know how to prevent them.

You’re in luck though. There’s a special gout report available online [see below] that has all the information you need in one place. It is what thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. Both are known as effective natural gout remedies in their own right. But together they make a very tasty dish that’s also highly beneficial for gout.

First let’s take a quick look at pineapples…

They have strong natural anti-inflammatory properties. So eaten fresh they can help to reduce inflammation and relieve the agonizing pain of gout.

They contain an enzyme called bromelain which can breakdown a blood-clotting protein called fibrin. In this way they help improve blood circulation, and, because they can also block inflammatory agents, they are able reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Now, let’s look at strawberries…

Studies have indicated that people who take high levels of vitamin C over a period of time can actually reduce their uric acid levels. And strawberries have high vitamin C concentrations.

But they also contain flavonoids which have natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This, together with the vitamin C, makes strawberries particularly beneficial in both reducing inflammation, and, lowering uric acid levels.

Of course you can eat them separately, but you can also combine them for a really tasty treat…

Cut the fresh pineapple into chunks, cut the strawberries into halves, and then mix together in a plastic container. Seal and pop in the fridge overnight. It’s delicious and highly beneficial! If you wish you can add low-fat yogurt which has relatively low purine levels.

Please click here to learn about high purine and low purine foods, and how they affect your gout.

Related Gout Articles:

Gout Diet and Remedies That Work

<a href='http://www.thegoutsite.com/gout-diets/gout-diets-shocking-gout-diet-foods-to-avoid' title='Gout Diets – But recent studies seem to turn this ‘theory’ on it’s head…

At the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in October 2009, researchers presented the results of a study of 16 gout sufferers. The results showed that drinking skimmed milk had beneficial effects in all 16 participants. There was an average 10% reduction in blood uric acid levels, with corresponding reductions in the frequency of gout attacks.

But the same study also showed that the consumption of soy milk had the opposite effect, leading to increased uric acid blood levels of around 10%. So soy milk should definitely not be part of your gout diet.

In longer term study, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2004, the findings were similar, in that the regular consumption of low fat milk could reduce the risk of having a gout attack by up to 43%.

And, this same study confirmed that red meat and seafood do contribute to increased gout attack incidences. So, in terms of a good diet for gout, avoid — or seriously reduce — the consumption of red meet and seafood.

But, in terms of milk, it seems that the regular consumption of skimmed or low fat milk can form part of a good diet for gout. So, as a minimum, drink 1 glass of low fat milk every day. You might even want to consider drinking a glass of low fat milk with each meal.

Related Gout Articles:

Diet To Eliminate Gout – Foods To Avoid With Gout

Common Foods that Should Be Avoided by Gout Patients

Uric Acid Therapy to Get Rid of Gout

Gout Diet and Remedies That Work

List of Gout Diet Foods to Eat and Gout Foods to Avoid

Gout Diets – Shocking Gout Diet Foods To Avoid

Aussies And Foods That Cause Gout

Adjusting Your Diet For Gout? – What Foods Contribute To Gout?

Understanding Gout Attacks

Foods to Avoid to Prevent Gout Attacks

Readers who viewed this page, also viewed:

Diet To Eliminate Gout – Foods To Avoid With Gout

Natural Home Remedies to Reduce Uric Acid in the Body

Pictures of Gout In Feet: How to Get Rid of Gout in Feet

List of Gout Diet Foods to Eat and Gout Foods to Avoid

Gout Recipes

The Gout Remedy Report Review

High Uric Acid Foods to Avoid If You Have Gout

Gout Diets

gout

high uric acid foods

high uric acid foods to avoid

low purine diet

low uric acid diet

Natural Gout Remedies

Want to know the high uric acid foods to avoid if you have gout, and want to prevent future attacks? Here, you’ll discover a list of foods to avoid, plus, a list of low uric acid foods you can eat as a gout sufferer.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HIGH URIC ACID?

In order to understand this, you need to be familiar with natural chemical compounds that all of us have in our bodies, and, that also exists in our foods. These compounds are called “purines”. They are essential in the process that provides us with our protein and energy.

During this process, however, purines actually breakdown, and one of the byproducts of this reaction is uric acid in your bloodstream. Your kidneys then process and expel excess uric acid from your system via your bladder and urine.

Unfortunately, when either there is too much uric acid being produced, or, your kidneys cannot process it fast or efficiently enough, excess acid is retained in your bloodstream and circulated around your body. This excess acid can then be deposited in crystalline form in your joints (your big toes the majority of the time, but other joints as well).

Under the microscope these crystals are in the form of tiny needles which give rise to the symptoms of gout; redness, swelling, inflammation and, of course, unbelievable pain.

BUT WHY SHOULD SOME FOODS BE AVOIDED i.e. HIGH URIC ACID FOODS?

Remember above how uric acid is produced by purines, and, purines also exist in our food? Well, too much purines can lead to too much acid for your kidneys to handle and you end up with excess acid in your blood, leading to crystals in your joints and thus a gout attack!

So it’s just common sense that someone suffering a gout attack, or, someone who suffers from regular gout attacks, should avoid foods that are high in purines.

And it becomes even more important when you learn that once having one gout attack, you’re almost certain to have others. And frequent, regular gout attacks can lead to permanently damaged joints and kidney stones.

HIGH URIC ACID FOODS TO AVOID (HIGH PURINE FOODS)

The following are foods that are either high or very high in purines and should be avoided…

Heart, liver, kidneys, brains, sweetbreads, broth, comsomme, gravy, meat extracts, red meat, shellfish, mackerel, sardines, herring, fish roe, goose, turkey, partridge, baker’s and brewer’s yeast, and yeast extracts. Plus, you must avoid all alcohol, but particularly beer.

The following are foods which are moderately high in purines and should be drastically reduced, or, better still avoided altogether…

Asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, lentils, legumes, spinach, dried peas, oatmeal, and soy.

FOODS YOU CAN EAT AS PART OF A LOW URIC ACID DIET

The following are foods that can make up a sensible, relatively low purine diet…

Essential fatty acids (e.g. salmon, tuna, seeds, flaxseed, nuts etc.), complex carbohydrates (e.g. pasta, rice, cereals, green-leafy vegetables, fruit, bread — but avoid white flour products), low-fat dairy products, foods high in vitamin C (e.g. potatoes, red cabbage, red bell peppers, oranges, tangerines, mandarins, etc.), fruit juices, and drink at least 2 liters of fresh water every day to help your kidneys flush excess uric acid from your system.

WANT TO FIND OUT MORE?

Your diet is at the heart of your recovery from high uric acid levels leading to gout. But, as with most things in life, it isn’t quite as simple as that. There are many other issues for you to consider in order to relieve the symptoms of gout, and, reduce high uric acid levels in the blood. Also to prevent future gout attacks and possible joint and kidney damage.

You’re in luck though. There’s a uric acid gout report available online that thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.
