Supplements for Gout: Here, I’m talking about treating gout naturally by using the benefits of supplements. Many gout sufferers would never think to use supplements as part of their gout treatment.

Supplements for Gout

In all the time I was being advised by my doctor about gout, supplements were never mentioned at all.

But, as well as herbs and other natural remedies, you can certainly use supplements to treat your gout naturally.

Also, apart from using such supplements for your gout,  they can also help replace the minerals, vitamins and nutrients that modern day diets can sometimes be deficient in.

And in the same way, if you’ve selected to change to a low-purine diet to help lower your uric acid (having first spoken to your doctor of course!), you’ll need to supplement your diet in order to keep up your natural health levels.

For example, many of the foods that you will eat as part of your low-purine diet are relatively low in vitamins B and E along with other important antioxidants. So there is a risk that if you continue with such a low purine diet without careful supplementation, you can actually make your gout symptoms worse because of uncontrolled free radicals.

To help you, here are  3 natural supplements for gout with a short explanation of their benefits and suggested doses…

Vitamin B Complex

This generally consists of all 8 vitamin Bs that play an important part in cell metabolism. They also help maintain your immune system, and as far as gout sufferers are concerned, can help to convert uric acid into a variety of harmless components. Suggested dose is (1 – 3) x 50 mg vitamin B complex each day.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is also involved in immune function and, as an antioxidant, helps to protect your cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. And as stated above, many low-purine gout diets are deficient in vitamin E, so supplementation can replace the vitamins lost through the diet. Suggested dose: 100 IU (International Units) of natural vitamin E.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant and is important for the growth and repair of all body tissue. It is essential for wound healing and for maintaining and repairing things like cartilage, teeth and your bones. Vitamin C has also been shown to reduce uric acid levels in your body. Suggested dose for maintenance: 500 – 3,000 mg per day. During a gout attack: 1,000 mg per hour.

Note: You must always consult your doctor before embarking on any significant dietary change including the taking of supplements.
