Fast Gout Relief With Baking Soda

A fast way to get gout relief is with baking soda which I’ve found to be very effective. But now that I have gotten my uric acid levels under control I don’t need to use this home remedy anymore. However, in the past, when I didn’t take care of my self properly, it used to help a lot with my gout attacks. And I know that if I ‘let things slip,’ and end up with an attack, it’ll be one of the first things I turn to.

You see it has a lot of benefits for someone suffering from a gout attack…

  • Baking soda helps to reduce the pain of an attack by dissolving the uric acid crystals that cause the pain.
  • It helps your body to flush more uric acid out of your body by making uric acid more soluble.
  • It helps your kidneys to process and excrete uric acid more efficiently by raising the volume of body fluids.
  • Baking soda helps to reduce the threat of uric acid kidney stones by raising the pH of your urine.
  • It helps to improve the power of any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) you may be taking.

So you can maybe see why baking soda is used by many gout sufferers for gout relief. But how is it taken I hear you ask? Just follow the simple instructions below…

  • Mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) in a glass of water (8oz) and mix well until completely dissolved.
  • Drink 1 glass before bed.
  • Drink 1 glass first thing in the morning.
  • Drink 1 glass every 2 to 4 hours in between meals.
  • Do not take more than 4 teaspoons of baking soda per day. This is equivalent to 8 glasses as mixed above.
  • Repeat until your symptoms abate.

Notes:- Baking soda has high sodium levels so it’s important for you to change to a salt-free diet while taking it. And if you suffer from high blood pressure do not use this remedy. In any case, as with all home remedies, always first consult with your doctor before trying.

But as I alluded to in my introduction, you also need to address other issues, because baking soda cannot eliminate gout on it’s own. Sure, it can help relieve the symptoms of a gout attack, but it can’t prevent gout from happening.

And preventing future attacks is really important because of the risk of permanent joint damage and / or kidney problems. Plus, as you may already know, once you have had even just one gout attack you are very likely to have more.

A key component in preventing gout is your diet, because the purines in your food produce uric acid, and, uric acid produces uric acid crystals, which triggers a gout attack. So a gout sufferer really needs to address their diet.

I don’t propose to go into this here, because this post is all about baking soda for relieving gout symptoms. But you can get more information on diet and gout by clicking here.
