How You Can Control Uric Acid Levels in Your Body Naturally

In order to prevent gout you need to control uric acid levels in your body and maintain them at that level. You want to avoid high uric acid at all costs.

High uric acid in your body — Hyperuricemia — can result in gout. This happens when these high levels in the blood help to form urate crystals in your joints. These crystals cause the symptoms of gout, including the unbearable pain.

So how do you reduce and control uric acid levels in your body?

Well, if you go to your doctor (as you should) they will most probably prescribe drug-based medications. Now, whilst these can be effective only as long as you take them, they can have some pretty bad side effects too.

Which is why so many more gout sufferers nowadays are using natural gout remedies as a viable option. Here are three such remedies for you to take note of…

1. Eat Less High Purine Food in Order to Lower Uric Acid

This is important because compounds called ‘purines’ which exist in our bodies, as well as our food, breakdown during metabolization and uric acid is formed as a result.

Since we are trying to reduce and control uric acid, then we need to reduce our purine intake through foods. Purines exist in most foods, but are particularly high in things like fatty red meat, offal, game, poultry, seafood, etc.

2. Eat Loads of Cherries to Help Control Uric Acid Levels

Cherries are super for treating gout due to their anti-inflammatory as well as antioxidant properties. They are also know to be able to help reduce uric acid in the blood.

Eat 30 to 40 cherries per day on an ongoing basis. But, at the first signs of a gout attack, and during it, step up to 30 to 40 cherries every 4 hours.

3. Reducing Your Weight Can Also Lower Uric Acid

Overweight people are at a higher risk of high uric acid and therefore gout. So, if you’re overweight, then you need to get down to your proper weight.

But, whatever you do, don’t crash diet as this can actually trigger a gout attack. And if you’re already in the middle of an attack, crash dieting will make it much worse.

Now these 3 tips are only the tip of the iceberg — excuse the pun but I couldn’t resist it — so there are many other issues you need to be aware of.

One of the most critical is that recurring gout can eventually lead to permanently damaged joints and kidney problems. And another is that since you’ve already had at least one attack, you’re now very likely to have many more.

What this tells us is that it’s vital to prevent your gout returning: It’s no good just attacking the symptoms each time you have an attack, you have to prevent further attacks. So you need to go deeper.
